LABUAN BAJO – The West Manggarai Regional Government (Pemda) will clean the drainage on Friday (2/14/2025). This is a solution to overcome the flooding problem in the super premium city.
“I have coordinated with several SKPD’s to come down together on Friday,” said the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Mabar, Fransiskus S. Sodo to Journalpost.id, Wednesday (2/12/2025).
According to Fransiskus, his party has cleaned several drainage points. However, along the Pede beach road will be a special attention.
“We have done several points, while for the road along Pede Beach, special handling will be carried out on Friday together with several SKPDs because the problem is quite special,” he said.
Fransiskus added that cleaning is a technical way to ensure that the drainage channel functions properly.
“Meanwhile, in the long term, this year the local government will prepare a drainage master plan in the city of Labuan Bajo so that flood management can be carried out comprehensively and well-planned,” he said.
Previously reported, Labuan Bajo, the capital of Mabar Regency, is now a regular flood. The super premium city was hit by floods when it rained on Wednesday (12/02/2025).
Journalpost.id’s monitoring shows that several points are regularly flooded. Among others, Kampung Ujung, Labuan Bajo Village and along the Pede Beach road, Gorontalo Village.
As a result of the flood, drivers of both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles had difficulty crossing. Some two-wheeled drivers even chose to use the sidewalk.
It is known that Kampung Ujung is the center of the city of Labuan. There are culinary, travel services, restaurants and lodging or hotels there. This is what makes this place always filled with tourists. Meanwhile, the Pede Beach road is the road to the Golo Mori tourist area.
Previously, on January 20, 2025, heavy rain poured down on Labuan Bajo for approximately three hours, causing several areas to be flooded. Local residents also felt quite serious impacts.
Some of the affected areas include Cowang Ndereng (Watu Cermi Village), Jalan Lamtoro to Komodo International Airport, Kampung Ujung, Kampung Tengah, Kampung Air (Labuan Bajo Village), as well as along Jalan Pantai Pede (Gorontalo Village) and several other roads.
